Episode 213 How to Say No to Yourself and Still Feel Good
Do you hate saying ‘no’ to yourself?
I used to.
When I said ‘no, you can’t do that’, or ‘you can’t eat that’…I felt deprived.
I felt like I was experiencing a terrible injustice.
What do you mean I can’t have that?
That’s not fair!
I shouldn’t have to tell myself ‘no’.
I don’t want to miss out on anything.
I certainly don’t want to be deprived.
But I’ve learned that if I never say no to myself, I wouldn’t love the outcome.
I would eat whatever I wanted, sure, but I’d pay for it with extra weight.
If I said no to my promise to move my body, in the moment, I’d get a free pass to just chill and relax.
But I’d pay for it with a body that wasn’t in the shape I wanted to be.
I realized that sometimes I did need to say ‘no’ to get what I wanted.
And I’d need to change how I thought about saying to, so that I didn’t always feel restricted, deprived or like life just wasn’t fair.
And that is what I want to share with you today.
In order to get the results you want, it is necessary that you start disciplining yourself in a kind, loving way.
That will mean saying ‘no’ sometimes.
