Episode 108: Back to Weight Loss Basics!

Do you rebel when you hear me talk about getting back to basics? I would venture a guess that you might.

This is because it’s natural to always want something new. Something exciting. A new solution to an old problem.

But what if the solution to your long-term problem of overeating and eating when you’re stressed was right in front of you?

You’d have to give up the search to see the direction you should be facing.

Everything I know comes down to three things that you need to learn to make your eating problems things of the past:

  • Eat
  • Think
  • Love

These three basics are what make up how you show up in your life, and sometimes they are working and balanced, and often, they aren’t.

Without learning how to eat like a natural eater, or learning to manage your mind, and of course, learning how to take great care of yourself, you will flounder.

And if you’re an emotional eater, floundering for you will show up as extra pounds on your body. Believe it or not, when you overeat, not only are you practicing a habit you don’t really want, but you are trying to take care of yourself. You are trying to do your best.

But, it’s not working.

Here is where I want you to go back to the basics, the foundational skills that will help you be the best you that you can be.

So, you can take all that energy that you use lamenting your weight, your eating habits and your body… and use that energy to go into the world and do amazing things.

Episode 106: Why Do You Really Want to Lose Weight?

If I were to ask you why you wanted to lose weight, either you’d look at me like I was crazy, or you’d go through a whole mental list of reasons you’ve accumulated through the years.

  • You might want to look better.
  • Or be a smaller size.
  • Or have ‘better’ clothes that fit you.
  • Maybe it’s how you show up in your job, your public image.
  • Or perhaps you have a big event coming up and you’d rather not show up in the body you currently have.

Why would I even ask such a simplistic question? Shouldn’t I know better?

Well, I’ll bet you’d be surprised to know that most of your reasons aren’t true.

They are what you THINK you want to get out of losing weight and changing how you eat. But they are merely surface reasons and won’t carry you through this journey.

That’s right! Your reason for wanting to do this is what creates fuel for your desire. Your big reason for doing anything is why you wake up and keep doing what’s right for you to reach your goals.

So, in this coaching session, I’d like to invite you to dig a little deeper. Let’s go behind and underneath the reasons you say you want to make eating changes.

And let’s get to the truth. What do you wish you could feel? What attitude do you wish you could have as you walk through the world?

That’s what you’re really after. And today, I’m going to show you how to get the feeling you want.

Because when you change how you think and get that feeling you lust after, it’s simply a matter of time before your body changes as well.

Episode 105: I’m Back! And Here’s What I’ve Learned!

Join me as I return to my podcast and you, my beloved listener, after a life-changing challenge.

After I went through this challenge, I was able to stand back and see with more clarity, some things about myself.

As I was able to do this, I also realized that much of what I learned can be applied to you as you travel through the challenges of learning to eat and think like a naturally slim woman.

I wonder if you realize how strong you are, and just what you are able to do? It’s so much more than you probably know.

And it’s interesting to think about the way you view this journey. Do you ever think: “This is just too hard! It’s not fair. And I just can’t do it.”

I used to think that too, but this past year has made me realize just how much I was capable of.

Also, no matter what I went though, which I will reveal in this episode, I finally was able to see that I’m still me. I know there are times when you look in the mirror and it’s almost as if you don’t recognize yourself with extra weight.

Rest assured that you are always in there, and you are always you. The essence of you is constant. No matter what you weigh. You are not lost. And this is good news.

And finally, I thought a lot about the difficulty I had asking for help. What this meant about me, and how it held me back.

And then I turned the corner and realized that it’s SMART to ask for help and to know when you need it. And this applies to you too.

These words can be confusing. That’s why you might default into giving yourself a sweet whenever you feel that need for ‘something’. Or when you want to reward yourself for a job well done.

And how about a little bribe for getting yourself to do something challenging? That’s allowed, right?

It’s good to take care of yourself, no doubt. But I want you to make sure that what you’re giving yourself really is a well-deserved reward, and not a poorly chosen treat that takes you off track from your goals.

You decide where you fit in on the curve.

And you take actions based on your position.

(Sometimes you take NO actions based on your position!)

You also judge your worth based on that position.

Could striving to be THE best push you to leave your comfort zone and achieve a lot?

Maybe.

But it is hard to define.

And by definition, there’s only one in each category.

So, what does that make you if you’re not THE best?

Now, what if, instead, you strove to be YOUR best?

You push yourself.

You set goals.

You move out of your comfort zone

You don’t compare yourself to others.

You don’t measure yourself on the curve.

And you certainly don’t judge yourself based on your position.

BUT, you grow.

You move.

You change.

And your only comparison is YOU to YOU.

I don’t know about you, but to me, that feels a whole lot friendlier and more supportive.

Me? I’m going to work to be MY best.

The heck with being THE best.
