Episode 117: How to Stop Quitting When You’re Not Perfect

Have you ever failed in your weight loss efforts, and in your desire to leave this whole problem behind you?

Of course, you have! Everyone has.

But the even bigger question is: What do you do when you fail? Do you quit? Do you tell yourself you’ll never get this?

If you’re like most of my clients and members of The Freedom Group, that is exactly what you do.

And the problem with that is each time you quit, because you’ve failed, the going gets rougher.

It gets harder and harder to move forward and make progress. You’ve had a fail. You’ve called yourself names and beat yourself up. And now what?

You want to start again. But each fail and each start over… everything is harder.

The real work to do is stick it out. Get up when you fall down. Know that failing is part of growing. In fact, one of my members said this on a call today: Failure is the bridge to success.

Don’t you love that vision? I do.

You need to stick with it and get over the hump when things get challenging and keep going.

Just keep going. Stop quitting. You can do this. Get over that hump.

You know what you want to do. You’ve figured out how to do it. And you know what your next step needs to be.

Imagine that you’ve done it! You’ve held on long enough to change the way you are eating. You’ve stopped eating emotionally. Maybe you’ve been resisting those urges to binge.

Why? Because you may have used sheer willpower to accomplish your feat, and that isn’t enough.

That isn’t enough to change from the inside out. To change deeply enough that you do walk around feeling relaxed and proud and confident.

And my goal for you is that if someone asks how you eat or what you do for yourself, you might find it hard to explain, because these days you think: That’s just how I live!

Episode 66: Why Taking a Pause in Your Weight Loss is Good, But Why It’s Not Good to Stop

Have you ever made a plan to eat differently, and then failed? Failure in my eyes may be different from how you see failure in yourself.

To me, making a mistake is not a failure. But making a mistake and falling down and not getting back up is the true definition of failure.

What I’d like to coach you about today is learning how to create a pause instead of a stop.

A pause where you evaluate what’s going on and what you might need to adjust to move on.

And moving on is definitely part of the picture.

I think one of the most common mistakes my clients make is falling down and staying down.

Do you do this? It sure takes a big toll on you and how you see yourself. And it doesn’t have to be this way.

We all overeat sometimes, especially on our way toward learning how to eat naturally.

The important thing to look at when you DO overeat is what you do immediately after.

Goin’ Gray!

The hair coloring process of Cookie Rosenblum will not be stopping anytime soon.

Nope. Covering my gray hairs will continue indefinitely.

The gray I’m talking about is beneath my crowning glory. And yours too.

It’s your mindset.

You know how you (and a million others) may have a tiny tendency to think in black and white?

Here’s how it goes:

  • You see yourself as either a good person or a terrible person.
  • Either you’re on a strict diet or eating everything that doesn’t have a pulse.
  • You might be glued to your couch eating chips, or you find yourself training for a marathon.

Sound familiar?

Well, here’s the deal.

Nothing is all good.

Or all bad.

Especially not you.

Striving to be all good all the time is guaranteed to do nothing but make you feel bad about yourself.

And why would you want to do that?

Conversely, telling yourself you’re a terrible person because something you tried wasn’t perfect puts you down that slippery slope of self-judgment.

Neither extreme works.

Neither extreme feels good.

So, go for gray.

Be okay with being just okay.

And know that being okay doesn’t mean giving up, not trying at all, or doing your worst.

It means, simply, that sometimes it’s okay to just do okay.

Not great.

Not terrible.

But okay is okay.
