You probably don’t give it a second thought when you shrug off the promises you made to yourself.

Promises like not eating when you’re upset, eating when you’re hungry, or giving yourself a few minutes a day to check in with yourself.

Or maybe you do pay attention to your promises, but still just can’t seem to keep them.

Episode 118: There is No Hurry

Are you in a perpetual hurry to lose weight? Does that work for you?

My educated guess is that it does not work. Hurrying makes you feel panicky and fearful and worried. It makes taking intelligent action hard, if not impossible.

I know that you’re probably in the habit of looking for the quickest fix. We all are these days.

But that quick fix, when it comes to weight loss, simply does not help you get what you want. And what you want is permanent change.

Permanent change comes from changing how you view things and changing your thinking. Then you can more easily change what you do.

If you force yourself to rush and take fast action, you will fall down and likely not get up for a while. And that will make your progress even slower.

So, hurry not only isn’t likely to get you what you want, but it doesn’t feel good. And in order to lose weight permanently, the whole process needs to feel good, so that you will stick with it.

If you’re willing to even consider rejecting your habits of hurried thinking and hurried actions, pull up a comfy chair and come into this coaching session with me.

Let’s take apart your habit of always being in a hurry for weight loss. It will come. But let’s not let hurry stop you because it’s not a sustainable way to live.

Episode 117: How to Stop Quitting When You’re Not Perfect

Have you ever failed in your weight loss efforts, and in your desire to leave this whole problem behind you?

Of course, you have! Everyone has.

But the even bigger question is: What do you do when you fail? Do you quit? Do you tell yourself you’ll never get this?

If you’re like most of my clients and members of The Freedom Group, that is exactly what you do.

And the problem with that is each time you quit, because you’ve failed, the going gets rougher.

It gets harder and harder to move forward and make progress. You’ve had a fail. You’ve called yourself names and beat yourself up. And now what?

You want to start again. But each fail and each start over… everything is harder.

The real work to do is stick it out. Get up when you fall down. Know that failing is part of growing. In fact, one of my members said this on a call today: Failure is the bridge to success.

Don’t you love that vision? I do.

You need to stick with it and get over the hump when things get challenging and keep going.

Just keep going. Stop quitting. You can do this. Get over that hump.

No, I don’t mean in the morning. But I do mean in your life. And especially when you are eating.

I wonder if you are aware how much of your overeating happens when you are zoned out, not paying attention to what and how much you are eating?

Well, this is really common. But common or not, I don’t want this to be something that you continue to do.

Eating is pleasurable. And if you enjoy good food like I do, I want you to taste and appreciate every bite.

Besides getting more pleasure out of your food, the other component of eating with mindfulness is that you get to hear your built-in signals that tell you how much to eat.

That’s right. You don’t need a diet to know when to eat and when to stop.

But you have to be awake and aware every time you eat in order to hear these signals.

So in this coaching session today, I’m going to be talking to you about:

  • What eating on autopilot is.
  • How to recognize it in yourself.
  • Why you might be doing it.
  • What you need to stop.
  • And of course, how to stop eating without realizing what you’re doing.

Episode 108: Back to Weight Loss Basics!

Do you rebel when you hear me talk about getting back to basics? I would venture a guess that you might.

This is because it’s natural to always want something new. Something exciting. A new solution to an old problem.

But what if the solution to your long-term problem of overeating and eating when you’re stressed was right in front of you?

You’d have to give up the search to see the direction you should be facing.

Everything I know comes down to three things that you need to learn to make your eating problems things of the past:

  • Eat
  • Think
  • Love

These three basics are what make up how you show up in your life, and sometimes they are working and balanced, and often, they aren’t.

Without learning how to eat like a natural eater, or learning to manage your mind, and of course, learning how to take great care of yourself, you will flounder.

And if you’re an emotional eater, floundering for you will show up as extra pounds on your body. Believe it or not, when you overeat, not only are you practicing a habit you don’t really want, but you are trying to take care of yourself. You are trying to do your best.

But, it’s not working.

Here is where I want you to go back to the basics, the foundational skills that will help you be the best you that you can be.

So, you can take all that energy that you use lamenting your weight, your eating habits and your body… and use that energy to go into the world and do amazing things.

Episode 104: Four Concepts to Focus on in the New Year

Can you believe it’s the end of another year with me? We’ve had so many coaching sessions together, with lots of new information.

I wanted to take today to outline for you some of the things I want you to focus on in the New Year.

Here they are:

1. I want you to listen to Episode 57. Here, we talk about the four most dangerous words you can say to yourself. Any idea what they are? They are: “I ALREADY KNOW THAT!”

When you say these words, you guarantee that you won’t learn anything new, or change your perspective.

2. Next, revisit Episode 68. I want you to understand why it’s so important to take a leap of faith. We will talk about what it is, and of course, how to do it. You cannot move forward if you don’t do what you have never done. I understand that you have no proof that you can do the unknown, but this is how you do it. You take a leap of faith. And you build your confidence.

3. Now, we move on to Episode 70. How often do you fall down and instead of getting back up, you say: “Screw it!” This is a dead-end statement. It stops you in your tracks, and it can become very habitual. Let’s learn how to fall down and get back up quickly!

4. And finally, have a listen to Episode 75. Do you have CLEAR guidelines? How you will eat? And why? And when? And how will you know when to stop? If you are thinking, “No, but I’ll just be good,” this won’t work. Clear guidelines are the way to go if you want definite results.

Episode 103: Why Slowing Down Helps Your Weight Loss

How do you operate? I mean, in your life. Do you rush through everything, trying to get to the end of your ‘to do’ list? Do you pause to smell the roses?

And if you do rush through, at 1.5 speed, how is that working for you? How is it working when you are trying to change how you eat, how you do things, how you deal with challenges?

My guess is that it doesn’t work. I’ve learned the hard way that leaving no time and no space in my schedule doesn’t give me the results I want. Actually, it tends to give me the opposite of what I want.

There needs to be some time and space in your life. To think. This is critical, especially in areas where you want to make changes.

And yet, if you’re anything like me, I can hear you protest:

“There is no time to slow down! My kids! My job! My commitments! My opportunities!”

So, you may continue to run at 1.5 speed, and then beat yourself up, because, guess what? Those changes you want to make? They aren’t happening.

Here’s the deal, my friend. You can do it all and you can have it all. But not all at once. And you need to slow down in order to think. And that is how you create change in your life.

You know what you want to do. You’ve figured out how to do it. And you know what your next step needs to be.

At this point, you know what you might be doing that holds back from what you want most: permanent weight loss.
