Episode 170: Why Now is Better than Someday

Do you want something different than what you have today? Do you want to feel different? To do different things? To get different results?

I hear you! Of course, you do. And that doesn’t mean you don’t appreciate what you have and who you are today. It means you want more. You want growth. You want to live as a better version of who you are.

That means allowing yourself to feel good now, even while you are going through a really challenging time. I want you to prioritize taking good care of you and your loved ones. And once you are safe and healthy, it’s okay to feel good now. It’s okay to move between fear and worry and back to gratitude and peace.

In addition to feeling good now, it’s also okay and even good to keep moving toward what you want most. After your needs are taken care of, now is the time to take steps in the direction of your dreams.

Time marches on, life marches on, and so do you. In the moment when you know you are okay, allow your good feelings to be present AND allow yourself to take steps toward what you wish for. Remember that someday is not real. Someday is a concept in the future, an easy way to let your brain stop worrying about today, but never really getting where you want to go.

Episode 167: Interview with Fran

Today we are going to hear a conversation between me and Fran, a former Freedom Group member.

Fran graduated from the Freedom Group after working through all four of the levels in the group.

I want you to listen to Fran’s story. Although she didn’t have a lot of weight to lose, about 20 lbs., she went through a long period of time in eating drama, thinking about food and her weight a lot!

Fran’s thoughts about her weight put her in a constant struggle with herself. And here’s how she got out of the struggle.

  • She tried all the diets you’ve ever heard of, including some methods that weren’t helpful.
  • After losing her husband, she started dieting to control what she could and felt bad about herself. She was using food to feel better.
  • Fran was in a pattern of feeling very emotional, overeating, and then restricting her eating so she never got above a certain weight.
  • This was an exhausting cycle. At that time this struggle felt normal, but now she realizes how hard it was.
  • Her journey led her to take care of herself emotionally and she got out of the habit of going to strict diets that ruled her life to a much more relaxed way of eating and finding peace.

I know what is possible for Fran is possible for everyone.

Listen to her story and ask yourself if you are still doing some of the things she used to do, and if you’d like to leave these habits in the past.

Do you ever wake up in the middle of the night, looking for food? Maybe you’re actually hungry, or maybe it’s just your habit.

In the moment, it feels like you have no choice but to follow this strong urge. And so, you do.

In the moment you don’t give it a lot of thought; there’s just this super-strong urge. And you probably go back to sleep after you’ve eaten. But the next morning is a different story, as you are wracked with guilt and regret.

Feeling bad and frustrated won’t help. But I do want you to do something about this, so it doesn’t become an even stronger habit.

In this coaching session I will tell you exactly what it might look and feel like so you can know if middle-of-the-night eating is what you are struggling with.

Then we will talk about all the possible reasons you might be doing this. We’ll talk about how it started and what to do about it.

A lot of my clients complain about their schedules. So many things come up! And so many things just don’t happen as they were planned.

Sometimes your regular schedule gets disrupted and you have to change all your plans.

Other times your schedule is regularly up and down. It’s always irregular. And that is normal for you.

What I hear is that so many of my clients and listeners blame the normal ups and downs of their life for their irregular eating. For their overeating. And for their out-of-control eating.

Did you ever have one of those days where you just needed a break?

You weren’t hungry. But maybe you were tired and worn out. It had been a long day, full of all kinds of demands on you. And you just needed something!

The problem is, you’re not used to paying attention to your thoughts or your feelings. Not to the point of really clarifying what’s going on with you. And if you’re not clear, then it’s hard to know what you really need.

You assume it’s food. And you’re certainly not alone here. It’s easy to grab. You know it will taste good. And it’s a faster fix than sitting with yourself and figuring out exactly what it is you do need.

But here’s the problem: Your body doesn’t need food in this moment. So, everything you eat will be stored as fat. And that’s not what you want, right?

In this coaching session, I’m going to show you how to figure out exactly what you need in the moment. And then, you’ll learn how to give it to yourself. Let’s reserve food for one main thing: hunger.

Episode 163: Are You Rebelling Against Yourself When You Overeat?

Do you think if someone had a way of ‘making you’ do something, that you’d be so happy? Because then you’d really stick to your eating plan or go to the gym.

But then, when you do join a diet program or hire that personal trainer, you still find yourself quitting?

If you do, you are not alone.

And as silly as this might sound, you are really rebelling against yourself. You’re the one who wants to achieve something, to change a habit, or to just show up differently.

But when you set things up to do just that, you find yourself thinking things like:

  • I don’t care!
  • I don’t have to!
  • No one can make me do that!

And the next thing you know you are off your plan, headed in the opposite direction of your goal.

This is rebellion at it’s worst, because you are actually rebelling only against yourself. Hmmm. Not exactly what you planned to do, right?

In this coaching session we will take a good look at how you might be rebelling against yourself, why you might be in the habit of doing that, and, of course, how to stop doing it!
