Self-care, which I’ve started calling self-love is one big way to take care of yourself. To dare yourself to really figure out what you need, and find a way to give it to yourself.

Because that’s what most of us who eat emotionally are trying to do. We’re not trying to sabotage our hard work. We’re just trying to survive and feel better and do our best.

However, that extra eating isn’t working.

Episode 47: How to Divide Your Day to Manage Your Weight!

Do you ever feel like your day is running amok from the moment you wake up until the moment you crash on your pillow at night?

So many women just like you go, go, go all day long and feel like they have no control over their day. It stands to reason that if you think you have no control over your day, then chances of sticking to your eating plan are slim to none.

In order to be able to think and take a breath between activities and obligations and even remember what you’re trying to do, it helps to divide your day into sections and let yourself flow from one to the next.

And the key is intentionality.

Some days throw the unexpected at us. All day. But most days, even if they are hectic, have a rhythm to them.

Here’s what you’ll learn today about managing your day so you can stay focused on your eating goals:

  • Ease into your day with a morning routine, including deciding how you want your morning to go. And who you want to be as your day moves ahead.
  • Once you get to work, whatever your definition of work is, again, check in and decide what you want to happen and how you’d like to respond to things.
  • Do you consciously think about what’s coming up on the calendar? You should. Not in dread, but in the spirit of being in charge.
  • When you get home in the evening, again, build in a transition period to ease into your down time. Even if you have a lot more you’d like to accomplish.
  • How do you want to feel when you go to sleep? Do you know how to accomplish that feeling?

I am going to teach you how to mentally break your day in sections, and guide you to consciously choose how you want each part to go. And how you want to show up in each of those parts.

Vacations and Parties and Travel, Oh My!

Do you do well managing your eating and self-care Monday through Friday, but get thrown for a loop on special occasions and vacations?

Many of us lead full, busy lives filled with restaurant meals, big events and some vacations. Our lives are literally filled with special occasions.

To manage their everyday life, my clients develop a plan for eating, taking care of themselves, for movement, even for how to think to get their best feelings.

Yet sometimes, they’ll feel stress about how to handle an upcoming business trip, or the snacks at church after services, a big wedding or a dream vacation.

Their stress comes from telling themselves: This isn’t normal.

It’s not my 9 to 5 routine.

I won’t be able to handle this without losing control.

How can I maintain my eating plan if I go on this cruise?

Here’s the deal:

It is normal.

It’s a different version of normal.

Just like the weekend is a different version of the workweek.

If you are lucky enough to have a full life with lots of events and occasions and celebrations, don’t put down your fork.

But do put down your fear.

These events are special but don’t have to be difficult.

They are just variations.

So embrace them.

Anticipate them.

Plan for them.

And while you certainly want to enjoy them, you want to be guided by your own internal thermostat.

Your own internal rules.

One of my clients calls it her own GPS system.

So no matter where you are and who is offering you the taste delight of a lifetime, you always check in with your own inner wisdom first.

This doesn’t mean you can’t or shouldn’t enjoy a special food treat at an event.

It just means that you should treat it like you’d treat any other decision you make for yourself.

  • Am I hungry?
  • Is this a worthy choice for me?
  • Will I feel better or worse after I eat this?

You get to decide.

So enjoy your full, busy and very social life.

Enjoy its irregularities and its contrast from every day to special.

But know that the special events are also just another part of your life.

And you always get to choose how you want to be in every situation you encounter.

So don’t panic.

Enjoy!

Corinne lost 100 pounds over 10 years ago by taking a simple approach: only do each day what you are willing to do for the rest of your life. She started with walking and thinking through the food she ate. Before her weight loss she battled obesity from the age of 9, never played sports, and lived in a drive-thru. She now has completed over 50 half marathons, 4 marathons, 7 Tough Mudders and a 4 triathlons. She has kept her weight off and now coaches women how to develop an active and healthy lifestyle.

  • Understand how you typically think about the number on the scale.
  • Learn why your thoughts about that number create the mood for your day.
  • And then how your mood leads you to eat well for the rest of the day, or slip into overeating.
  • How can you look at that number on the scale more objectively?.
  • What can you do if you don’t want to weigh yourself but want to see if you’re making progress?
  • What makes the scale go up or down?
